Whether you love it or love to hate it, winter is a rapidly approaching fact of Canadian life. Despite predictions for an unusually warmer season (thanks El Niño!), changes in temperature can wreak havoc on your skin. Staying moisturized is key, and we’re setting goals to drink more water, use our humidifiers, and – most importantly – adjust our skincare routine to ensure our faces keep their summer glow all winter long.

How to Use
Since preparation is the secret to success, we tried the Biotherm Water Lovers boxed set (which includes the lightweight Life Plankton Essence and the rich Aquasource Gel) before the first flurries fall.
We’ll be using this product throughout the winter, so check back for another review come springtime to learn about long-term results!
Pros
- Its mandate of “Beauty with a Blue Heart.” Biotherm donates the proceeds of all limited edition Water Lovers products to fund projects that help protect the world’s waters through the creation of “Hope Spots”, or marine areas large enough to restore “the blue heart of the planet” – our oceans.
- Paraben-free, perfect for anyone looking are trying to stay away from chemical preservatives!
Cons
- A bit oily, so be sure to wash your hands afterwards to avoid any residue. This was fine for me, as I used the excess to moisturize my hands, but it could be a problem for some – especially if you’re prone to breakouts.
- A little on the sticky side after application.
- The rich texture of the AquaSource Gel can increase your skin’s shine factor. This is easily solved by using the lighter Life Plankton Essence during the day, and the heavier AquaSource gel at night.
Life Plankton Essence
This product smells fantastic, and its lightweight texture absorbs nicely. After the very first application, my skin felt smooth and extremely soft – like baby skin! As my skin tends to get very dry during the winter months, I feel that this product has the potential to significantly improve my skin’s level of moisture – it felt relaxed and not as tight after just one application!
AquaSource Gel
Like the Life Plankton Essence, this product smells fantastic, and it’s a bit richer than the Essence – perfect for pulling its weight on particularly dry days. The product is known for its “continuous hydration”, which provides 48 hours of continuous moisture by boosting your skin’s natural water reserves. Like the Essence, my skin felt smooth and extremely soft after the very first application – it’s clear why these two products come as a pair!
