CLEAN & CLEAR® understands that finding a skincare routine that will work for your specific skincare needs is important. Incorporating more than one product into your routine can provide the greatest benefits – that is why CLEAN & CLEAR® has put together four morning routines, using a combination of products, that cater to different skincare needs:
The Fresh & Clean Routine - for those who don’t have a particular skin issue, but want to keep their face feeling fresh and clean.
The Acne-Free Routine – for those who are troubled with acne and want to prevent pesky breakouts.
The Oil-Free Routine – for those who have issues with oil and shine and want to reduce the appearance of both.
The Pore Perfect Routine – for those prone to blackheads and want to reduce the appearance of pores.

It's been a long time since I've used the Clean & Clear line. It used to be a staple in my routine as a teenager and I forgot how much I truly liked the products! The cleanser gives an amazing deep down clean, while the astringent is a great toner without being too drying. The moisturizer is a super lightweight but effective acne treatment and hydrator in one which makes it a must for almost any skin type!
When ever I hear of Clean & Clear products I think, products targeted towards hormonal teenage acne. I had the chance to try out a simple three step skin care routine from Clean & Clear, and boy was I wrong. I have combination dry skin and although I don't suffer from acne I do get formations of little white bump clusters around my forehead and by my ears. The three step routine was so easy to incorporate into my regular skin care routine and I have found two products that I will continue to use regularly even after the testing process.
First comes the cleaning task with the Foaming Facial Cleanser which I used as my second cleans after a makeup removing balm. It removes all the greasiness left behind by the balm without over drying my skin. The second step is the Deep Cleaning Astringent that includes salicylic acid that targets and treats pimples. Now, I don't particularly suffer from pimples but this stuff helped with the little white bumps I was suffering from and I will continue to use it on targeted areas however I would not recommend it daily to others with my skin type as it does contain ingredients that could further dry out your skin. I will probably use it twice a week to help treat and prevent those pesky white bumps. And finally, the moisturizing step with the Dual Action Moisturizer which also contains salicylic acid. This moisturizer sank into my skin immediately, no stickiness or shine which is why I loved using it at night so that wouldn't wake up with a shinny face.
In summary, I think this three step routine covers all the bases for someone who is looking into getting into a skincare routine. The products aren't harsh for those with dry skin and I've personally noticed a difference after using these products for about three weeks.
I always get nervous testing out a new face wash. There's nothing worse than covering up embarrassing spots from not leaving well enough alone. At the same time, the change in autumn weather seems to be making my skin break out slightly & it had me yearning for something tougher to cleanse those silly spots away with. Getting the opportunity to try the CLEAN & CLEAR® Essentials line through Crowd Social, I was excited to see if it'd be a solid knock-out for my seasonal surprise breakouts.
Taking the adventurous leap one evening to test the line out, I ran a tap of warm water & hoped for the best. The gel cleanser lathered nicely in my hands & on my face, but the scent was nothing to rave about. It's a clean scent, nothing more, & the same could be said for the rest. After being squeaky clean & dry, I applied the deep cleaning astringent making sure to hit all my "trouble spots". They were sure in trouble, tingling away that evening after the last step of dual action moisturizer was applied. I could sure feel the warmth of the CLEAN & CLEAR® products working their magic & it made me nervous as I hoped to not find myself with a reactive red face in the morning.
Waking up the following morning, I was pleased to see my strangely sensitive skin was a-okay. The CLEAN & CLEAR® Essentials line had started to do the trick with no additional reactions to my sensitive skin. After a few more evening cleanses, my spots were more tame & my skin was happy & clean.
With the help of these Essentials, I've finally started to concur the autumn change & tame those silly spots once again. I won't say that this new cleansing routine will replace what I already have in place (since it's still a little harsh for my liking on an everyday basis), but it is a great addition for those unforeseen breakout moments. Great for anyone attempting to concur those silly stubborn spots.
I've been using Clean & Clear products on and off for a few years, usually the astrigent for breakouts. I didn't know that Clean & Clear had a "problem pores" solution. I'm pretty lucky that my skin is generally pretty good, which is great because I hate wearing and putting on make up. I get the occasional breakout but overall not too bad.
I received a foam wash, an astringent and a moisturizer. I've been using it for a couple of days and so far, so good. It's tricky to tell so far if my pores are changing but I definitely like the system so far. I hate things that are overly complicated or have too many steps, this one is great because it spells it out for you. It's a skincare routine I can definitely get into since it takes less than 5 minutes, and well particularly in the morning, time is precious. Actually, time at bed is precious too, I don't want anything standing between me and my bed! I'll definitely keep using the skincare routine and look forward to seeing if it makes a difference with my skin.
I haven't used clean and clear since I was a teenager and as an adult Ive been using the pricier department store products…I am SO glad I started using them again! I remember what I loved about them - the fresh tingle my skin feels after using the cleanser is my fav. It beats my expensive beauty buys and honestly seems to work even better!
I have combination/oily skin (mostly on my t-zone and chin), so I was excited to try the Clean & Clear Oil-Free Routine. Inexpensive and available at most drugstores, I hoped to find a gem or two in the collection. Here are my thoughts on the products:
Morning Burst Shine Control Facial Cleanser:
This is a thick, foaming gel cleanser with bursting beads that claims to wake you up as you use it. It definitely has what I'd call a "lift-me-up" fragrance, as it is fruity and fresh. I don't really think it wakes me up so much -- I'm probably too far gone in my coffee addiction for that -- but it's a nice scent, nonetheless.
Now, my one problem with this cleanser is that it irritated my skin. I'm not sure what ingredients caused this, and it hasn't happened before with other cleansers, but something in the mix caused redness and irritation on my face. The irritation subsided after a few hours, but I'm wary to use the cleanser again. Thankfully, it did at least clean my skin well, but my skin's chemistry just doesn't like the formula.
Essentials Deep Cleaning Astringent:
This astringent/toner has a small amount of salicylic acid (0.5%), but alcohol is the first ingredient, and it can be an irritant. I prefer to use this on my very oily t-zone and chin area, where it doesn't seem to cause much irritation. I've had a couple pimples on my chin and this astringent does seem to be working to heal them. The scent of this product is very light and fresh, with an alcohol overtone. I love the bottle shape and design with the "2" in the background!
Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer:
This moisturizer really surprised me! It's a thicker gel, and I really expected it to be sticky and take a long time to sink into my skin. It actually soaks in very quickly and leaves a matte, non-sticky finish. The scent is light and fruity and reminds me a lot of summer. The gel is also cool on the skin, which makes me wish I had this in the summer, though I could also see it being great after a workout! The squeeze tube packaging is perfect for this formula, and I haven't experienced any irritation from using this.
Blotting sheets are essential for oily skin! These ones, I think, are a classic example. The package is incredibly lightweight and portable, and I love the way the sheets are dispensed -- push on the tab on the bottom and a sheet will stick to the inside of the front cover. The material the sheets are made of has a vinyl-like consistency, and does a great job at absorbing excess oil. The sheets can also be used over makeup, and won't remove or mess it up, so they are great to use while out and about. The only thing I wish I could change would be to make the sheets biodegradable, though that would require a different material and might affect their efficacy. Still a great staple for your purse!
Overall, I would recommend the Morning Burst and Hydrating Gel Moisturizer and Oil-Absorbing Sheets, and the Essentials Deep Cleaning Astringent if your skin can tolerate alcohol. I wish I'd had a better experience with the cleanser, but 3/4 isn't bad. Thanks, CrowdSocial and Clean & Clear!
I absolutely loved these products. I used these for 7 days and found that you could see the results almost immediately. My face is smooth and my acne spots have been removed - there are only small blemishes left that I'm sure will be removed once I'm done using these bottles.
This routine leaves my skin feeling fresh and looking bright. The cleanser cleans all dirt and make up off and cools down my skin. The toner controls redness in my more trouble areas and T-zone, it can be drying if I use it every day so I use it as I need. The moisturizer is oil-free which is a big plus. It sinks right into my skin and doesn't leave a greasy residue.
Revisiting my teenage skincare products with Clean & Clear
Step 1 - Cleanse with the Clean & Clear Essentials Foaming Facial Cleanser
The thing you need to realize about this cleanser is that a little goes a long way. The first time I used it, I put an amount the size of a nickel in my palm and it was WAY too soapy. It was just too much. My eyes began to water and it left my skin a little too tingly and tight. Just a small amount is more than enough for a good cleanse. It is rather intense though, most days I go for a softer cleanser, so I stopped using this twice a day when the review period was over, but it's still in my bathroom.
Step 2 - Tone with the Clean & Clear Essentials Deep Cleaning Astringent
This is pretty much the only skincare step that I skip as an adult. The one big change I noticed from my teenage skin routine to my adult one is that once I left harsh astringents out of my routine, my rosacea calmed riiiight down. Now, I'm much more likely to use a hyaluronic acid instead. I found that after just two days this astringent was causing my skin to flare up, several hours after applying it. It didn't burn or hurt, it just seemed to really affect my complexion. I think most adults who aren't EXCEPTIONALLY oily can safely skip this step.
Step 3 - Moisturize with the Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer
Now, this step I can get behind. I find I need to rotate my moisturizer several times a year as my skin is always changing. Fall is particularly rough because I can't have a moisturizer that's too heavy because it causes my skin to break out, but ones that are too light don't give my skin enough moisture. This product provides just the right amount of moisture and allows my skin stays protected and healthy.
After a few days of testing out this method, I've come to the conclusion that while Clean & Clear is definitely not a brand just for teens, overall it's not the brand for me. My skin is more combination than sensitive, but I found these products on a whole were too harsh for me to use daily. While I was using the astringent in particular, my skin looked flush and was producing more oil than normal. BUT I did notice my skin stopped reacting pretty much immediately after I stopped using it. Overall though, since Clean & Clean is optimized for the pimply, oily teenage, with this brand, perhaps a more sensitive product line would suit me better.
That said, I'm definitely going to continue using the cleanser as a rotational item in my routine, and I think I'll let the moisturizer stick around too. But I'm ditching the astringent. My skin just doesn't need anything that harsh anymore. It' good to know that despite not feeling like much of an adult sometimes, my skin says otherwise!
Before sharing my review and routine I want to give a huge thank you to Clean & Clear and Crowd Social for providing me with the Deep Cream Cleanser, Blackhead Cleansing Astringent, and Dual Action Moisturizer. These three products individually deep clean your pores, clear your skin, and add to your skincare routine. Skincare is an important aspect to your beauty routine and I want to share with you what products I use to keep clear!
Clean & Clear Product Reviews:
- The Deep Cream Cleanser is exfoliating and creamy! This product is great for people who have sensitive skin that dislike harsh exfoliators. I agree with bottle as it cleans deep down to the pores with a cool refreshing tingle afterwards. I also recommend using a makeup remover wipe before cleansing or using his cleanser in the morning to wake up the skin.
- The Blackhead Cleansing Astringent was light, oil free, and quickly drying. I decided to apply this toner directly on my active acne spots with a cotton swab for fast treatment. At of all three products this one was the most effective and my favourite.
- The Dual Action Moisturizer is a light texture which is ideal for mornings. This product made me feel nostalgic as I used it all through High School. However, I recommend using a heavier moisturizer in the evening without salicylic acid to hydrate the skin.
- The three products together and individually tingle the skin and do not burn. I do not recommend using all three product at once if you have sensitive drying skin. A word of advice when using products with salicylic acid is to make sure you are applying them in small doses.
I was fortunate to be blessed with such fantastic skin that most people are shocked to hear my age (thanks mom). But because of this, I didn't really take care of my skin or follow beauty routine when I was a teenager. Unfortunately ever since my twenties, I have struggled with large blemishes that appear out of the blue and take FOREVER to disappear. And now in my late thirties, this dilemma is not only still here, but has become increasingly embarrassing when dealing with the public and going out on dates (maybe this is reason people think I'm younger than I am?). So when I had the opportunity to test out Clean & Clear's Oil-free skincare routine, I jumped at the chance.
Who knows, maybe skincare products I should've used when I was a teen, will work now that I'm an adult?
I received the Clean & Clear Oil-free skincare routine to review which included Clean & Clear Morning Burst Shine Control Cleanser, Essentials Deep Cleaning Astringent, Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer, and Oil Absorbing Sheets. Because of my age I have several areas of concern with my skin. I have typical combination skin and several skin issues: my skin can get extremely dry and dull looking, I'm trying to keep those fine lines from appearing, and of course large blemishes that can appear on my chin, forehead, or jawline anytime they want to. Applying all the different creams to my face to combat age and dryness, can clog my pores and make me break out. I have 'Catch-22' skin. Yay (sarcasm)! So because of all these concerns I tried the Clean & Clear Oil-free free skincare routine several different ways.
(Un)luckily for me, when I received the Clean & Clear products, I was in the middle of a large breakout on my chin. I first tried the Morning Burst Cleanser which was great! It had a fabulous scent that helped me wake up in the morning, cleansed my skin thoroughly and rinsed off cleanly with no residue. Next was the tricky part - the Deep Cleaning Astringent. Using a cotton pad, I first used it all over my face, which quickly made it feel way very dry. It was the same with the Hydrating Gel Moisturizer. I applied it all over my skin the first two times and it made my aging skin feel way too tight and dry. But after the first initial uses, I only applied the astringent and moisturizer to my problem area, while I applied my regular anti-aging cream to the rest of my face and jackpot! Within two days, I already noticed my blemishes shrinking and disappearing. Yay (no sarcasm)! And as an added bonus, when I felt like my face was getting a little shiny throughout the day, the Oil Absorbing Sheets work like a charm at making my skin look less greasy and it didn't smudge my makeup.
I'm definitely going to keep using the Cleanser, the scent gives me that little extra burst of energy in the morning that I usually need. The Oil Absorbing Sheets are definitely being added to my purse for daily use to help with my selfie game, and the Moisturizer and Astringent I will keep around when my 'Catch-22' skin acts up and those pesky blemishes appear. All these Clean & Clear products can be found at mass retailers and drugstores for around $7 each.
P.s!: If you have skin like mine, using acne-fighting products just to the problem areas is a great way to combat the blemishes while not drying out the rest of your skin!
***Disclosure: Even though I was sent these products from Johnson & Johnson Inc. through Crowdsocial, all my opinions and statements are true and reflect my actual viewpoint.***
All three products did a good job at what they were supposed to do (ie. cleanser cleaning my face, moisturizing providing hydration, etc).
The cleanser has a lovely minty scent to it, provides a cool sensation on the skin, and left my skin feeling soft and clean. The Persa-Gel 5 has no scent to the product and absorbs extremely quickly. The moisturizer also absorbs extremely quickly and has a really refreshing scent to it. My skin was left feeling soft and smooth after application.
The only thing that I'd change about any of the products is that the Moisturizer has parabens in the ingredient list. If the parabens were removed, I'd consider using the moisturizer more frequently.
I did not find too much issue with all three steps, but they were a bit too much for daily use with my dry and sensitive skin. They worked well enough on my T-zone and I did notice my blackheads staying at bay, but not pulling a disappearing act. What did do a disappearing act was a pimple on my chin. I think it will be best for me to use this when I have problem areas or to spot clean.
I recently had the opportunity to try a new to me, three step routine from Clean & Clear. I was immediately taken back to the days when Clean & Clear was my skin care forever. Could it still bring me clean, clear and fresh skin?
Clean & Clear Essentials Foaming Facial Cleanser ($7): If you are looking for a cleanser that deeply cleanses, this is it. It is a gel cleanser that really lathers into a glorious foam. The formula is oil free and it is definitely a more clinical smelling cleanser. My skin definitely looks a lot of cleaner and brighter after using Clean & Clear foaming cleanser.
Clean & Clear Essentials Deep Cleaning Astringent ($7): Astringents or toners, are a skin care step I hardly indulge in. I don’t really have concerns for oily skin or break outs. However, I can still appreciate the benefits of an oil free astringent and definitely reaped the reward with Clean & Clear. This astringent has salicylic acid in it to combat oil and breakouts. It treats current areas and prevents further areas for clear skin. You can apply it evenly to the face with a cotton pad and the astringent doesn’t need to be washed off. I love the skin cleansing and tightening effect of using Clean & Clear deep cleaning astringent.
Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer ($7): The final step in the Clean & Clear Essential three step routine. This moisturizer hydrate skin and treats the skin with salicylic acid. I love the texture of this cream moisturizer and how it makes my skin feel like velvet after applying it. The formula is oil free and continues with the clinical fragrance trend. The bottle is a pump +++ for sanitary reasons. I definitely noticed the moisturizer kept my skin calm and as promised, clean and clear.
Clean & Clear definitely makes skin clean, clear and fresh. What is your first skin care memory? Do you have a favourite Clean & Clear product?
If you have sensitive skin, you should look into Clean & Clear's sensitive product solutions as the combination of alcohol, salicylic acid and lack of oils might prove to do more harm than good. However, if you have an oily skin type that is prone to breakouts, the Essentials trio is a great way to control oil and breakouts if you don't already have a routine. While I found the astringent to be quite drying, the moisturizer was my favourite of the group and would have come in handy when I was in the more humid climate of Montreal this past summer. My skin was so congested from using my skincare regime from Vancouver!
I have never had to use ducts growing up as I was blessed with good skin. Two kids and many years later it has all changed. I find myself dealing with dry and broken out skin more often and it can be frustrating.
I really enjoyed trying you the Clean and Clear products and found them to be very beneficial to my skin. I started out using them once a day to make sure I did not have any reactions and then increased to two times a day.
My skin stayed hydrated all day and my break outs were less. I loved that I was able to use the Persa Gel-5 when the break outs did happen them faster.
I loved the Clean and Clear products and plan on using them on a regular basis.
I've never had horrible skin, not the way my older brothers had to deal with it anyways. I got through most of my adolescent (and adulthood this far) by washing my face in the shower. It was just never an issue I felt like I faced the same way my peers did. Yes, I get acne, near my eyebrows, my hairline, and chin especially. But, it always felt easy enough to cover it up with makeup, and never a burden to let it go away after a few days. It was always difficult for me to get myself into a routine.
When it does come to my skin, its a combination of dry and oily, but when asked I always lean towards oily as I've noticed I get shiny spots in photos and sometimes feel I have to wipe my brow more often. Using the oil wipes certainly helped to affirm this. Seeing the oil that came off my face onto the pads certainly made it obvious that's what I was dealing with.
I wasn't the only one who wanted to try out these products, Rowan also got in on it to see how they'd help him. It became part of each of our morning routines to try it out together. It was weird, strange couple time that we don't get much of in the mornings, so there's that!
I was provided by Johnson & Johnson through Crowdsocial, four products to try to help combat my oily prone skin. Here are the results:
Morning Burst Shine Control Cleanser: I've used other morning burst cleansers before and they've always been that one brand I know is reliable. To be honest Clean & Clear is probably the first brand I tried when I first starting experiencing acne. So, when it came to the cleanser, I was pretty excited to see the difference it made. Overall, it did well! I've noticed a decrease in my breakouts (although they aren't gone entirely). The process takes about 3-5 minutes to lather, apply and rinse.
Deep Cleaning Astringent for Sensitive Skin: This was something I was most interested in. My boyfriend and I both suffer from acne on our backs, so I wanted to see how the astringent helped with soothing and helping them disappear. So far, they've helped my face pretty well. I'm definitely seeing a difference in the acne I already had disappearing. Stay tuned for back results (I'm less consistent using this). It took less than 1 minute to apply to trouble spots (t-zone, hairline and chin).
Bonus: it doesn't hurt! It might be a slight sting depending on the stage of the pimple, but it's kind of relieving too!
Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer: I think this is my favourite product of the four. The moisturizer smells like blue freezies.. And it works like a charm! It leaves my face feeling smooth, but not greasy, all day! Happy to use this in the morning and repeat if necessary (although, so far, it hasn't been).
Oil Absorbing Sheets: I haven't actually had to use these as much as I thought! I guess that's a good thing, meaning the other treatments are helping keep my skin oil-free throughout the day! However, I will say how much I've noticed they pull oil off your face. Just dab the pad to your face and you'll see the difference it makes! And, as promised, it doesn't take your makeup off! Mind you, I don't wear a whole lot of makeup, so maybe that has something to do with it.
So that's it, overall, I'm very pleased with these products! My 13 year old self is giving me applause for being a good girl and consistently using facial products, and getting into a routine.
With the whole process taking less than 10 minutes, it fit into my daily, young professional life pretty well. The morning burst surprisingly helped me wake up a bit more before heading out to work. And, all the products are reasonably priced between $7-$11.
Despite hitting my 30s, my skin still thinks it is a teenage. I have large pores and an oily t-zone but dry flaky skin on my cheeks.
While I have tried better products to target my pores, they have also really dried out my skin elsewhere on my face so Clean & Clear is definitely a happy medium at a drug store price.
The cleanser is gentle, yet effective, the astringent works well without drying out my skin and the dual action moisturizer worked well with salicylic acid to clean out pores while still moisturizing but not sure if it is strong enough for bad acne.
Clean & Clear Acne-Free Routine (Probably a 4.5, even though I can only rate in whole numbers!)
While all my opinions here are completely honest, I want to make sure to state that The week I was testing out these products was not a very acne-filled week for my skin. I did have some spots, but nothing too big or hard to get rid of, so I'm mostly going to be reviewing these products from a skin-maintenance perspective!
So this routine, which I chose in a week where my skin was having more problems, is for acne prone skin, to prevent and help to control breakouts. As you saw in the brochure above, there are three products. First you start with the acne cleanser, then you use the acne cream on any problem spots, and once that has sunk in, you top it off with the moisturizer. (And I'm sure many of you know this already, but moisturizer is still a very important step for acne-prone skin, since skipping it can cause dry skin, which your body will try to prevent by overproducing oils... which can lead to more breakouts!)
Continuous Control Acne Cleanser
This wash is meant to be gentle enough for daily use, and contains 5% benzoyl peroxide (BP), one of the popular chemicals used for treating breakouts. This wash is meant to help treat and prevent breakouts by penetrating the BP into your pores for to help treat zits even after washing. It promises not to clog pores and to leave skin feeling clean and tingly.
To use, like with most face washes, you massage onto damp skin (avoiding your eye area! I tended to avoid the whole area you might apply eye cream, because that skin is sensitive!) for 20-30 seconds and then rise. Pretty simple. They say you can use this up to twice a day, but sensitive or fair skinned individuals should start with only once a day to prevent over drying, as the BP can be harsh.
Personally, I quite like this wash. Its hard to say if it helped to clear up the couple of problem spots I had, or if those went away on their own, but this certainly didn't cause any new breakouts! The cleanser comes out like a thick cream, and doesn't lather on your skin (which isn't a problem for me. Foaming washes can be drying anyways), but it does feel refreshing, cooling, and somewhat minty. This is because of the menthol in it. I found that the warmer the water I used to wash my face, the more intense the menthol tingle was! So if you aren't a fan of a strong tingly effect, maybe don't take this one into a hot shower with you! I don't mind the feeling, however, it's quite refreshing.
One last thing I wanted to mention that I noticed and thought was interesting is that this product is not oil-free. Two of the listed ingredients include mineral oil and petroleum... My skin didn't have any issues, so this really doesn't bother me. I like using oils on my skin, though these aren't the -best- oils for you. However, I wanted to mention it in case your skin doesn't react well to those ingredients or if you just don't like the idea of mineral oil and petroleum in an acne wash.
Persa-Gel 5 acne medication
This is a spot treatment, and the promises are certainly not lofty or special on this one, it just claims to prevent and kill acne bacteria. Sounds good! It says that this is the highest concentration of benzoyl peroxide available without a prescription, at 5%, just like the face wash.
I don't really have anything too special to say about this product. It is a different consistency than some spot treatments I've used, though. It calls itself a gel, but I would say it is more of a lotion-y consistency, as opposed to the usual clear gels or white or tinted pastes (like Clearasil). It's thin, and rubs and sinks into the skin quite quickly. If your skin responds well to BP, this will probably work quite well for you. It's also nice that it dries so quickly, so I don't have to wait too long to apply my moisturizer!
Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer
This product is not actually from one of Clean & Clear's acne ranges, but it does work perfectly with this routine! It claims to be a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that won't clog pores. It also contains cucumber extract as well as mango fruit extract, so it is soothing and smells really fresh and lovely!
I'm not going to tell you how to use moisturizer, but I am going to tell you I bloody love this stuff. If you've read or watched anything I've said about skincare (like my skincare routine video), you may know that I've used and LOVED the Clinique Dramatically Different Gel Moisturizer in the past. I really dislike heavy, creamy, or greasy moisturizers for every day, and gel moisturizers are my saviour! This one is no different, and even better, it's at a drug store price range! I've only been using this for about a week, but I am already pretty sure I'll be repurchasing when I run out!
Inexpensive, smells great, non-greasy, sinks in quickly, and actually hydrates my skin? Awesome! I love how my skin feels after using this product, all clean and smooth, almost matte, but in a natural way. Love.
CClean & Clear is a brand that takes me all the way back to my acne-prone teenage skin. Since I didn’t have very severe acne, nor oily skin, I wasn’t too much into the brand back then, having only tried out 1-2 items from the range. An opportunity came up to try out the brand’s new oil free routine!
I have normal-dry skin, so immediate I was concerned about trying out the products because they were meant to help those with oily skin. Good thing I have a sister who is willing to be my partner-in-crime to test out these products together to see how the product works on two sets of skintones (normal/dry which is mine, and oily for my sister)
Step 1: Cleanse
Using the Clean & Clear Morning Burst Shine Control Facial Cleanser (available here) the very first noticeable thing is the tingling and refreshing sensation on the skin. Infused with beads that burst as you massage them and vitamins that rejuvenates, and exfoliates the skin, this is a key product to my and my sister’s morning routine. You can really feel the difference when you use it in the morning – that tingling sensation is unlike anything else I’ve tried! My sister loves it – I found it too much for my skin in the morning, so I use it only every other day.
Step 2: Tone
The Clean & Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent for Sensitive Skin (available here) is the toner for those with oily and sensitive skin. Astringent is a key ingredient to unclog the pores and get rid of any dirt that wasn’t picked up by the cleanser. Most tones I’ve used in the past tended to have some ingredients that made my skin feel very tight and uncomfortable afterwards. For my sister who has oily skin, this was the perfect balance of removing the excess dirt and making her skin feel very clean afterwards!
Step 3: Moisturize
Now this is a step that she and I can do together! The rich, lightweight, non-greasy gel-based moisturizer (available here) melts onto the skin and leaves the skin feeling hydrated immediately afterwards. It smells like cucumber so it will not aggravate any allergies and smells natural enough. A dime sized amount is sufficient to moisturize the entire face!
Step 4: Maintain
The last step involves blotting excess oil and removing shine from the face. Fortunately, since I work in a dry office environment, I don’t have to reach out for the lovely Oil Absorbing Blotting Paper (available here) too often, but my sister finds it to be godsend. Stuck with a student budget, my sister used to use those Starbucks napkin (it has a 4.8/5 rating on Makeup Alley!) to blot her skin throughout the day, she’s basically stockpiled on this. It doesn’t irritate or budge whatever she’s worn underneath.
Recently I had the opportunity to try out the Clean & Clear Fresh & Clean routine. Since I don't have any specific problems, I thought this would be a great choice. However, I found most of the products in this line to be too harsh. Both the astringent and the lotion contains salicylic acid which is suppose to help control acne. I thought the ingredient would have been better off for the "acne prone" line. Also, the cleanser was also a bit too harsh for my liking even though it does not include salicylic acid.
What I did enjoy is the scent and texture of all the products in this line. I think if you did have acne and need to control it, this could be great. It might also be better for those with younger skin that's not as sensitive to harsh ingredients.
I remember using these products when I was a teen, so it\'s a real throwback. The three step system includes a cleanser, a deep cleaning astringent, and a moisturizer. The Essentials Foaming Facial Cleanser has a gel formulation with Vitamin C and ginseng. After cleansing, it did make my face feel quite dry. I have combination skin at the moment, but I imagine this would work well for those that have oily skin types or suffer from excess sebum.
The Essentials Deep Cleaning Astringent is quite drying. You\'re supposed to take a cotton pad and wipe it over areas such as your T-zone, or any other places where you make have excess oil. I would only recommend using it once a day, and make sure to moisturize right after!
And finally, the Dual Action Moisturizer. The oil-free formula helps to moisturize and provide additional acne treatment to the skin. I really like this moisturizer! It absorbs and dries quickly on the skin without feeling sticky or oily. It feels cool and tingly on the skin at first which is great. Overall, I don\'t think this set is for me as oily skin and acne protection aren\'t my primary skin concerns at the moment. If you\'re suffering from excess oil or frequent bursts of facial acne, I would highly recommend for you to check this out!
Acne - Just typing out the word alone makes me shutter. I have suffered with acne since I was 12 and I can still remember the day I found my first pimple on my chin. I stood staring at the mirror trying to figure out what to do about the "situation". I immediately got my mom to take me to Shoppers Drug Mart where I bought the Clean and Clear acne clearing gel and the Clean and Clear concealer stick - both with salicylic acid. I was happy with this routine for a few years but my acne started to get worse. I soon realized that salicylic acid wasn't working for my skin anymore so I started to search for a formula with benzoyl peroxide and stuck with my new found routine for years.
Now I am so happy to see that Clean and Clear have created a formula with 5% benzoyl peroxide (which is double the amount that is in my current routine).
The first product I tried from the routine was the Clean and Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser.
This cleanser features a pore-penetrating technology that deposits acne medicine to help fight breakouts on your face after you wash.
I used a dime sized amount in the palm of my hands, then dotted it all over my face and cleansed with my Clarisonic. It foamed nicely and my face felt cleansed and free of oil when I washed the cleanser away.

The next product in the routine is the Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 5 which releases the medicine into the pores where breakouts start and prevents them from coming back. Once my face was dry after using the cleanser, I used the persa-gel on any active breakouts. Overnight there was an instant reduction in the size of my breakouts and I found they didn't look red or irritated.

Lastly, I used the Clean and Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer all over my face. This moisturizer is formulated with water, not oil, and contains a blend of cucumber and green mango extracts. This moisturizer is lightweight and has a fresh cucumber scent. I usually find that using moisturizer in my morning routine can cause my skin to get oily during the day but this one did not cause that problem. My skin felt clean and refreshed when I used this moisturizer and it is quickly becoming a staple in my skincare routine.

To be really honest, skin care has become probably the most significant part of my entire beauty routine - especially since starting this blog. I've had the chance to try out a lot of products and I'm consistently working on figuring out which products work the best for my skin. Recently, I had the opportunity to try out the Clean & Clear Pore Perfect Routine*. To be honest, I was really skeptical at first because I'd always thought of Clean & Clear as a line of skin care that was more targeted for teenage skin issues. In fact, when I was a teenager I actually did use Clean & Clear and I remember really liking it, but it had been years since I had tried anything from the brand. I have normal to dry 30something skin and I definitely struggle with clogged pores more than anything. It's really only been in the past few years that clogged pores have really been a problem for me, I used to get active breakouts more when my skin was a little more oily, and I've been really actively searching for a routine that will combat that. I've been using this line consistently in my skin care routine for a couple of weeks and I'm ready to give you my thoughts!
Clean & Clear Deep Action Cream Cleanser*
CLEAN & CLEAR® Deep Action Cream Cleanser removes dirt, oil and make-up deep down to the pores as you wash your face. Its oil-free formula won’t clog your pores and will leave your skin feeling cool and fresh, with the unmistakable tingle of really clean skin.
This was definitely the product I was worried most about in this line, because when I think of Clean & Clear I think of acne, and when I think of acne cleansers I think about running in the opposite direction for fear of turning my skin into a something akin to reptilian scales. Cue my overwhelming pleasant surprise at the fact that this is by far my favorite of these 3 products and I've been using it morning and night to cleanse my skin ever since I got it. Since this is a cream cleanser (rather than a foam) I find it doesn't leave my skin feeling dry or tight at all, even though it absolutely feels clean after I use it. It also leaves behind a really pleasant and refreshing cooling feeling on the skin that I absolutely love - especially in the morning.
Tackle your blackheads with the Blackhead Clearing Astringent. This astringent is specially formulated to reach deep down to the pores to remove dirt and oil from your skin – the facial impurities that can lead to blackheads, pimples and acne.
I\'m actually pretty new to the world of acid toners, but I know I've definitely said in the recent past that I\'m a full out convert. Let me tell you a little story about the first time I used this... Like so many women, even when my skin is at its best, that time of the month usually leaves me with at least one horrifying pimple-so-ghastly-that-it-needs-a-scarier-name. Of course, that\'s where I was at the first time I used this product. So when I woke up the following morning and the size of the break out was significantly diminished and there was no more tenderness on that spot, I was an instant convert. At 1% Saliculic Acid, I feel like this is a phenomenal option of an acid toner that really works and is easily available at the drugstore for an affordable price. If you've been thinking about dipping your toe into the world of acid toners, I really do feel like this is a great place to start.
Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer*
CLEAN & CLEAR® ESSENTIALS™ Dual Action Moisturizer combines oil-free moisture with a proven acne-fighting ingredient. It can help to moisturize dry skin while treating and helping to prevent breakouts and pimples. It leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth and looking its best. The active acne-fighting ingredient, Salicylic Acid, cleans deep into pores, while the special moisture formula won’t dry out your face.
I actually used to use this moisturizer pretty religiously. I don\'t actually remember why I stopped using it, but it was weirdly comforting to start trying it out again. For me, I actually prefer to use this as a daytime treatment more than a moisturizer, because it doesn't pack quite enough moisture for me to use on its own as the weather gets colder and my skin gets drier. However, as a treatment used on my cheeks, which is where I tend to really struggle with clogged pores, I really like this product.
I have to say that overall I\'m really surprised and impressed with how much I love these products. If I was going to recommend only one product from this line, it would be absolutely be the Deep Action Cream Cleanser, because for me that\'s the real stand out. It does an incredible job of really cleansing my skin without stripping it and leaves my skin feeling clean and hydrated. I would also really highly recommend the Blackhead Clearing Astringent, especially for people who are just dipping their toes into acid toners, because it does a phenomenal job of dealing with both active breakouts and preventing clogged pores. As to the Dual Action Moisturizer, I would recommend this for people who have oil skin and are in need of a little less moisture, but I also find it to be a really great treatment even on my normal to dry skin.
If you're like me and you haven't really thought about trying Clean & Clear because it seemed like it was meant for younger skin, I would definitely recommend taking another look at the brand because there are some real gems here!
This line has three parts: a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. The cleanser really foams up when applied to a wet face, however, once I rinsed it off my skin felt rubbery as if all moisture had been stripped away. It almost felt as though I had washed my face with a bar of soap. The astringent was far to drying for my skin (I have very dry skin). That being said, I am not the target consumer as it is made to treat blemishes and contain salicylic acid. This moisturizer was my favourite part of the trio. It had no scent and felt really nice when applied. It sinks into the skin very quickly. I think it would be great for someone who doesn't want too heavy of a cream. Overall this is a nice skincare set at a good price, but if you have dry skin this will not work for you.
